Food has a meaning that goes far beyond satisfying hunger. When it is prepared with care and shared without distinction, a meal can become an expression of equality, respect and human connection. This belief has shaped Anjor Patra, an initiative of Anjor Foundation that brings together the Foundation’s spiritual values and its responsibility towards people.
A Beginning Rooted In Action
World Hunger Day in 2023 became a moment of action for Anjor Foundation. Instead of allowing the occasion to remain limited to awareness, the Foundation began a weekly food distribution initiative at Sai Chowk in New Sangvi, Pune. The idea was practical and purposeful: freshly cooked vegetarian meals would be prepared and served every Saturday evening.
The journey began with 250 meals. From the beginning, attention was given to hygiene, nutrition and the care with which every meal reached a person. As weeks became months, participation grew and the initiative reached more people. Today, Anjor Patra serves more than 500 individuals every Saturday.
More Than Food Alone
The name Anjor Patra carries the meaning of a vessel of light. That thought is reflected in the way the initiative has grown. Volunteers and supporters contribute their time and effort to preparing, packing and serving meals, making every Saturday an expression of shared responsibility.
For Anjor Foundation, the value of the meal lies equally in how it is shared. A person receiving food is treated with respect, and every contribution becomes part of a larger effort where people care for people.
Where Faith Meets Humanity
The spirit of Anjor Patra also extends into the Foundation’s spiritual journey at Shri Datta Maharaj Trimurti Shakti Pith in Pune, a sacred space constructed by Anjor Foundation. Every Thursday, devotees visiting the mandir are served a complete Mahaprasad meal.
More than 500 devotees receive the weekly Mahaprasad, bringing spiritual devotion and social nourishment together in one shared experience. During four major programmes organised at the mandir every year, the scale grows considerably, with complete meals served to more than 5,000 devotees at a single gathering.
Equality Around One Meal
Anjor Foundation was founded with the belief that spirituality should bring humanity closer together. Anjor Patra gives that belief a practical form. Around a shared meal, distinctions of wealth, profession, caste and social position lose their importance. What remains is the simple dignity of one human being serving another.
